I’ve had some Little Women feels lately

trivialqueen:

I should be reading for my comprehensive exams, but instead I’ve found myself thinking more and more about Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women and the March Sisters Saga. I read Little Women the first time when I was probably about eleven, as most well, little women do. I enjoyed it, particularly since I felt that Jo and I were particularly kindred spirits. She was always dashing about and never wanting to be left out, played with the boys even when she was wearing a dress. I had short hair, she had short hair, and so on.

When I was young I liked the idea of her marrying Laurie and never quite understood why she turned him down. Perhaps because I also had a crush on my friend and so wanted there to be conformation that if I waited until I was older we’d get married, yada yada yada.

Rereading the book at nigh 27 I have had a complete 180 of opinion.
