do kids these days know about glomping?

What is that?

hehe…. *glomps you* OwO

:3

What the fuck?

The younger generation doesn’t know about glomping? How very sad.

Glomps are anime-style tackle-hugs. They should, of course, only be practiced on those who want them, but *glomp* used to be a standard affectionate greeting online.

Wait?  *bewildered dinosaur noises*  *Glomp* isn’t a thing any more?  But… no.  No I refuse to accept that.  A glomp is such a wholesome and enthusiastic and joyful thing, and I refuse to let it die.

I’d like to expand on the previous comment’s description, if I may?   I will share my understanding of The Glomp, as it was taught to me in Days of Old.

*sound of ancient throat clearing*

While it is a tackle-hug often, the point isn’t the tackle, imo? Like, yeah, when someone says *glomp* it can mean “I am running up and hugging you tightly and we fall down”, but the key thing is the hugging and holding on?  The way I’ve always used it (and seen it used) it’s a joyful hug-and-cling.

It’s when you’re so happy to see someone, or so happy about something that they’ve said or done, or have missed someone so much, that you grab hold of them because there’s no other way to express just how glad you are that they exist.

Generally it’s a full-body thing, arms wrapped around the glompee, face smooshed into their chest or back, eyes closed and grinning. But it is also possible to glomp someone’s head, or their arm, or whatever.  *glomps your whole entire head* is how I greet at least one of my favourite online people :p

Allow me to present some examples:

Figure 1.  Here we see the glomp-and-arm-pin variation (the run-up is implied):

Figure 2.  A more traditional run-glomp:

Figure 3. A glomp-to-group-hug variant:
(Here we see Steven initiating the *glomp* action which he continues, while the others join in for a group hug, which while close to a glomp, is not the same thing).

It should be noted that the glompee is showing signs of distress, which are being ignored.  Do not glomp people who do not wish to be glomped.

In summary, the glomp is awesome, and should not be allowed to die out.  #savetheglomp
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

GLOMP = grab, latch on, maintain pressure.
